Bagan 2015 Jan

I just came back from a trip to Bagan. In fact, it was more than just Bagan and I didn’t see that coming.

I went there with three people whom I’ve never met before. They are extremely nice, funny, cheerful and from different backgrounds. You guys blew away my mind and thank you guys for that.

One of my biggest hopes when I went to Bagan was to witness the sunrise and sunset. I didn’t get a chance to experience those. Damn you rain. I will go back again just to see those moments.

The weather was dark and cold. Even though it was raining, we still made to some places and it was totally worth it!

A picture worth a thousands words.

Here are a few thousand words. I hope you enjoy.

Where to Start #2

The previous post : Where to Start 1 is here

The other topic I would like to emphasize is to read.
It’s very simple to say you should read but most people only talk and they don’t do it.

I didn’t read too. I still don’t read much. But I was inspired by people around me to read.

Here’s my process of how I read. Whenever I see an interesting article, I saved it to Pocket. You might not heard before what’s Pocket. Essentially, it’s “Read-it-later” app. You can save a web page, Pocket will extract the body of the article and save it to you so that you can read it later “offline”.
Everyday I save a lot articles than I can read. I read when I am stuck in the traffic, when I am in the toilet, when I am waiting for someone, before go to bed and sometimes, I just sit down in a corner and read. Most of the time, I read on my phone. Sometimes, I read on the web. Pocket has iPhone, Android and...

Where to Start #1

The title is where to start because I don’t know where to start but I will do it anyway.

I am a programmer. I am fascinated by the results of little programs I wrote. I know that nobody uses the programs I write. That’s fine for me because I want to learn how to make programs and more importantly, I want to use it.

I see some people, especially students, have problems with the place to start when they dive into this field.

First of all, you need to learn a tool and become comfortable using it. These tools can be a text editor or IDE or a programming language. It doesn’t matter what you choose but you gotta choose one. Use it everyday and make yourself comfortable with it. I need to tell you that it takes time. Some may need a week or some may need 6 months or so.

You should be language/tool agnostic which means you should not worship a single programming. Because All the programming...

My friend Ark suggests the English title shall be like “Love is like flowers which do not need to be strung” ..

Hackathon (again)

Disclaimer : All I am about to say don’t represent the whole team that participated in Hackathon or the employee I am working for or the organization I am working with.

Thanks to Arkar for proofreading and corrections!

I participated in the second hackathon held by Code For Change Myanmar. This hackathon is also called Business Solutions Hackathon.

I strongly recommend you to read my friend (also my teammate during the Hackathon) Swan Htet Aung post.

I arrived at the venue on Friday evening and I was told about the “idea” that we were about do by my teammates. It’s basically “uber for food delivery”.
First of all, our idea doesn’t fit any specific Hackathon problem. It is more like shooting half of the problems in the Hackathon with a single bullet. So, it was pretty clear that we weren’t going to win. On the other hand, I also thought that this idea was too broad and we...

You’re Beautiful by James Blunt

I’ve been loving this song since I heard it for the first time. It’s really really beautiful song with beautiful lyric.

Yes, she caught my eye,

As we walked on by.

She could see from my face that I was fucking high

And I don’t think that I’ll see her again,

But we shared a moment that will last ‘til the end

You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful.

You’re beautiful, it’s true.

There must be an angel with a smile on her face,

When she thought up that I should be with you.

But it’s time to face the truth,

I will never be with you.

Code4Change Myanmar Hackathon 2014

Alt text
For those of you have no context with the title, there has been event called “Code4Change Myanmar” Hackathon event. It is a 48 hours event with lots of fun, food and experiences. The problems to be solved were presented by the NGOs. Teams were formed among the participants and each team chose a problem.

tldr: Our team won!

When I first heard the announcement of the winners, I was like, “HOLY MEOW, WE WON ?!?!?” . It felt like a dream. But like any other dream, it is time to me wake up and do things that matter more. :-)

To each and every participant, I would like to say that you all are winners. What all of you guys have done and achieved is incredible and amazing!

I am not really proud of winning because we know ourselves more.
I think what we have achieve in the past 48 hours is not bad. To my friends who spent the whole night coding, you guys rock. You guys are truly...

What I could not say

I always thought of writing down my thoughts and rants but it doesn’t seem to happen as I wish. But I will try to and this would be one of them.

I am happy that I am able to run my first half marathon for 2014. As much as I am a lazy and have no training, I can say I am happy with it though I barely made it. I hope to run more and more in this year.

I am sad because I am not hard working at all these days. I sleep, watch movies and read a few books. This is what I do before I go to work and came back from work. Oh. Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club and Rush are quite splendid shows. I suppose Captain Phillips can win Oscar like Argo did last year.

I am (quite) happy that I’ve lived with the old Nokia phone for months. Distraction free. But on the other hand, I am quite addictive to this Samurai Siege game. I play at home, I play at work and it’s taking most of my time. I should...
